August 8, 16, 22, 2008 - Jetty Late Night Campfire Program, Jetty Island, Everett, Washington, 7 to 8 p.m.  Jetty Island stays open until 9 p.m. on campfire program nights.  Access to Jetty Island is by the Jetty Island ferry, 10th and West Marine View Drive.  See the Jetty Island web site for ferry schedules and more information.

August 8-10, 2008 - Taste of Edmonds, Civic Playfield, 310 6th Avenue, Edmonds, Washington.  Hours are Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Admission is $3, and children 12 and under are admitted free.  Includes food, arts and crafts, entertainment, a beer and wine garden, and children's activities.

August 10-12, 2008 - Sky Valley Antique Tractor Show, Frohning Farm, 1524a Tualco Loop Road, Monroe, Washington.

August 21-September 1, 2008 - The Evergreeen State Fair, Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Highway 2, Monroe, Washington.  The fair opens at 10 a.m. daily.  For complete hours and events visit the fair's web site.

August 22-24, 2008 - Sauk-Suiattle Pow Wow, Darrington Bluegrass Grounds on Highway 530, 42501 State Route 530 Northeast at Mile Marker 46, Darrington, Washington.  Native American Indian pow wow, hosted by the Sauk-Suiattle Tribe.  Free admission and parking.  *RV hook-ups and camping available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Pets allowed on leash.  No drugs or alcohol are allowed on the grounds.

August 25, 2008 - Senior Day at Jetty Island, Jetty Island, Everett, Washington, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Includes a nature walk, refreshments and Jetty Bingo.  Bring a lunch, a hat, sunglasses and an umbrella.  Access to Jetty Island is by the Jetty Island ferry, 10th and West Marine View Drive.  See the Jetty Island web site for ferry schedules and more information.

September 27, 2008 - Run for Hope, Stillaguamish Athletic Club, 4417 172nd Street NE, Arlington, Washington.  5K and 10K run, begins at 9 a.m.  Registration is $15 before September 19, 2008, and $20 after, up to the day of the event. 

December 13, 2008 - Marines Toys for Tots Run, Stillaguamish Athletic Club, 4417 172nd Street NE, Arlington, Washington.  5K and 10k run, begins at 11 a.m.  Registration is $15 before December 5, 2008, and $20 after, up to the day of the event.

Skagit County Events

August 6-9, 2008 - Skagit County Fair, Skagit County Fairgrounds, Hazel & Virginia Streets, Mount Vernon, Washington, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  *RV camping available.

August 7, 2008 - La Conner Pioneer Picnic, La Conner, Washington, Pioneer Park, La Conner, Washington.  Starts at 10:30 a.m. and lunch, served at noon includes a salmon barbecue.  The public is welcome.  Admission is $10 per person and includes lunch.

August 16, 2008 - Hot Rods in the Vineyard, Carpenter Creek Winery, 20376 East Hickox Road, Mount Vernon, Washington, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  North Cascade Street Rod Association car show.  Box lunches and soft drinks available, as well as wine by the bottle and glass.  

September 13, 2008 - La Conner Classic Yacht and Car Show, south basin of the La Conner Marina, 312 North Second Street, La Conner, Washington.  Runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission is $3 to view the yachts and cars.  Children under 12 are admitted free.  Includes vendors, food and kids activities.

June - August, 2008 - Free Concerts, downtown plus various parks, days and times, throughout Bellingham, Washington. Click here for complete concert schedule and locations.

June 28-August 30, 2008 - Saturday Family Field Trips, Tennant Lake and Hovander Park, 5299 Nielsen Avenue, Ferndale, Washington, free, 1 to 2 p.m.  Saturday afternoon family tours of the trails around Tennant Lake and Hovander Homestead Park.  No registration is needed.

August 9, 2008 - Bellingham Youth Triathlon, Arne Hanna Aquatic Center, 1114 Potter Street, Bellingham, Washington.  Includes swimming, biking and running.  Staggered starts from 9 a.m.  Register online.  Cost is $15 pre-registration or $20 after July 31, 2008.  

August 9-10, 2008 - Chalk Art Festival & La Bella Strada, downtown Bellingham, Washington.  View the works of locals who make chalk art on Bellingham sidewalks and stay for eating and dancing in the streets.  The chalk art is created August 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Includes the Bite of Bellingham, August 9 from noon to 5 p.m.

August 11-16, 2008 - Northwest Washington Fair, Northwest Washington Fairgrounds, Front Street, Lynden, Washington.  RV camping with hookups available on the fairgrounds as well as at RV campgrounds nearby.

August 16, 2008 - At the Feet of Komo Kulshan, Silver Lake Park group picnic shelter, Maple Falls, Washington, 8 to 9 p.m.  Campfire interpretive program about Mount Baker.  Cost is $2 per person, register at the beginning of the program.  There is no minimum age, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

August 17, 2008 - Sunday in the Park, Hovander Homestead Park, 5299 Nielsen Avenue, Ferndale, Washington, 1 to 3 p.m.  Explore Hovander Homestead House, the barn and farm.  Meet at the Hovander Park information station. Cost is $3 per person, children under age 5 are free.  Register at the beginning of the program.  There is no minimum age, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

August 22, 2008 - Orcas - Hunters of the Sea, Lighthouse Marine Park, Point Roberts, Washington.  Campfire interpretive program about the Orca whales often seen at Lighthouse Park, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Follow signs to the program from the boat launch parking area.  Cost is $2 per person, register at the beginning of the program.  There is no minimum age, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

August 22, 2008 - Lily Point Walk, Lighthouse Marine Park, Point Roberts, Washington, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Cost is $2 per person, register at the beginning of the program.  There is no minimum age, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult, Approximately 2 mile round trip walk with elevation gain of 200 feet.

August 23, 2008 - Semiahmoo Biodiversity in Bloom Walk, Semiahmoo Park, Blaine, Washington, free, 10 a.m. to noon.  Wild garden walk, led by Master Gardeners.  Children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

August 30, 2008 - Semiahmoo Sunsets, Semiahmoo Park, Blaine, Washington.  Listen to stories of Semiahmoo history as the sun sets into the bay, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Follow signs to the Semiahmoo Park campfire location, weather permitting.  The program is in the Cannery Day Lodge in inclement weather.  Cost is $2 per person, register at the beginning of the program.  There is no minimum age, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

August 30, 2008 - Dance on Taylor Dock, Taylor Dock, Bellingham, Washington, 6 p.m. to sunset, free. Music by Jon Parry and Joe Paquin and friends.

September 13, 2008 - Fairhaven Runners Waterfront 15K, Fairhaven Village Green, Bellingham, Washington.  Check in at 7 a.m., race begins at 8:30 a.m.  Register at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center, 1114 Potter Street, or Bellingham Parks and Recreation, 3424 Meridian Street, Bellingham.  Cost is $20 by September 3, or $25 September 4-10, 2008.  No day of race registration.

October 10-11, 2008 - Oktoberfest, Deming Log Show Grounds, 3295 Cedarville Road (off Mt. Baker Highway), Deming, Washington.  Cost is $11 per person at the door and admission includes a beer stein or wine glass.  *RV camping available on the grounds.  No dogs allowed.

October 12, 2008 - Runningshoes.com Mountain Bike Duathlon, Lake Padden Park dog off-leash area, 4882 Samish Wasy, Bellingham, Washington.  Begins at 11 a.m.  Cost is $15 pre-registration and $20 after October 3, 2008.  Run 2.6 miles and mountain bike 6 miles.  Register online.
