Saturday Family Field Trips, Tennant Lake and Hovander Park,
5299 Nielsen Avenue, Ferndale, Washington, free, 1 to 2
p.m. Saturday afternoon family tours of the trails around
Tennant Lake and Hovander Homestead Park. No registration
is needed.
August 9, 2008 - Bellingham Youth Triathlon,
Arne Hanna Aquatic Center, 1114 Potter Street, Bellingham,
Washington. Includes swimming, biking and running.
Staggered starts from 9 a.m. Register
online. Cost is $15 pre-registration or $20 after July
31, 2008.
August 9-10, 2008 - Chalk
Art Festival & La Bella Strada, downtown Bellingham,
Washington. View the works of locals who make chalk art on
Bellingham sidewalks and stay for eating and dancing in the
streets. The chalk art is created August 9 from 10 a.m. to
3 p.m. Includes the Bite of Bellingham, August 9 from noon
to 5 p.m.
August 11-16, 2008 - Northwest
Washington Fair, Northwest Washington Fairgrounds, Front
Street, Lynden, Washington. RV camping with hookups
available on the fairgrounds as well as at RV campgrounds
nearby.
August 16, 2008 - At the Feet of Komo Kulshan, Silver Lake Park group picnic shelter, Maple Falls,
Washington, 8 to 9 p.m. Campfire interpretive program
about Mount Baker. Cost is $2 per person,
register at the beginning of the program. There is no
minimum age, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an
adult.
August 17, 2008 -
Sunday in the Park, Hovander Homestead Park, 5299 Nielsen
Avenue, Ferndale, Washington, 1 to 3 p.m. Explore Hovander
Homestead House, the barn and farm. Meet at the Hovander
Park information station. Cost is $3 per person, children under
age 5 are free. Register at the beginning of the
program. There is no minimum age, but children under 14
must be accompanied by an adult.
August 22, 2008 - Orcas
- Hunters of the Sea, Lighthouse Marine Park, Point Roberts,
Washington. Campfire interpretive program about the Orca
whales often seen at Lighthouse Park, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Follow
signs to the program from the boat launch parking area.
Cost is $2 per person, register at the beginning of the
program. There is no minimum age, but children under 14
must be accompanied by an adult.
August 22, 2008 -
Lily Point Walk, Lighthouse Marine Park, Point Roberts,
Washington, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $2 per person,
register at the beginning of the program. There is no
minimum age, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an
adult, Approximately 2 mile round trip walk with elevation gain
of 200 feet.
August 23, 2008 - Semiahmoo
Biodiversity in Bloom Walk, Semiahmoo Park, Blaine, Washington,
free, 10 a.m. to noon. Wild garden walk, led by Master
Gardeners. Children under age 14 must be accompanied by an
adult.
August 30, 2008
- Semiahmoo Sunsets, Semiahmoo Park, Blaine, Washington.
Listen to stories of Semiahmoo history as the sun sets into the
bay, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Follow signs
to the Semiahmoo Park campfire location, weather
permitting. The program is in the Cannery Day Lodge in
inclement weather. Cost is $2 per person, register at the
beginning of the program. There is no minimum age, but
children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
August 30, 2008 - Dance on Taylor Dock, Taylor
Dock, Bellingham, Washington, 6 p.m. to sunset, free. Music by
Jon Parry and Joe Paquin and friends.
September 13, 2008 - Fairhaven Runners
Waterfront 15K, Fairhaven Village Green, Bellingham,
Washington. Check in at 7 a.m., race begins at 8:30
a.m. Register at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center, 1114
Potter Street, or Bellingham Parks and Recreation, 3424 Meridian
Street, Bellingham. Cost is $20 by September 3, or $25
September 4-10, 2008. No day of race registration.
October 10-11, 2008 - Oktoberfest,
Deming Log Show Grounds, 3295 Cedarville Road (off Mt. Baker
Highway), Deming, Washington. Cost is $11 per person at
the door and admission includes a beer stein or wine
glass. *RV camping available on the grounds. No
dogs allowed.
October 12, 2008 - Runningshoes.com Mountain
Bike Duathlon, Lake Padden Park dog off-leash area, 4882 Samish
Wasy, Bellingham, Washington. Begins at 11 a.m. Cost
is $15 pre-registration and $20 after October 3, 2008. Run
2.6 miles and mountain bike 6 miles.
